The first thing to realize about this NUC is that it is "barebones" meaning you have to purchase RAM and SSD separately and install them yourself before it will work. This is not clearly explained in the description (which I have reported). If you want to run Windows, you will also need to purchase a license for that or transfer it from another PC (if you have a transferable retail license already). I purchased RAM and SSD on Amazon, both for less than $100, so at this price point I had a fully functional desktop machine for under $300 which I was very happy about. My goal here was to do this without buying one of the questionable no-name brand mini PCs which I believed would have less quality and support than ASUS. I ran into one hiccup installing Windows 11 which is that the wifi driver does not seem to be included by default in the Windows 11 installer. I had to download that separately from the ASUS website, unzip it to a USB stick, and then add that driver during the Windows 11 install when prompted for network settings. Once I did this, everything else went smoothly. This machine is not particularly fast (N150 CPU), though it's nice that it's low power and quiet, even if the fan turns on during high load. I really wish Intel would make a CPU competitive with Apple's excellent M1-M4 series, which are faster than this CPU and run cooler. If you are happy with Mac OS, getting a Mac Mini may be a better choice for you. I'm a little concerned about the thermal health of this NUC long-term. At load, the CPU temperature goes over 90 C as reported by PerformanceTest. That suggests that ASUS has not done a good job with the cooling system, and may cause thermal throttling in the short-term (losing speed) and eventually lead to premature failure. The most important word in the description is 'Barbone', the unit is a circuit board with ports. You must install RAM, SSD Storage, and WIN 11 with a Microsoft account. I was too stupid to realize this. But, also, I do not think it is clearly explained. Read more
