I'm not going to be too unkind to the Mini Retro Digital Camera, solely as it is really quite cute and fun to use... Photo size is 3456x3456 pixels (11,943,936 pixels total) making the sensor nominally 12 MP. Photo quality is reasonable (I've seen much worse!) and would produce a reasonable 4x6" print, it is only viewing on a big screen at 1:1 that it really looks bad! I was unable to load a video sample to Amazon, so you will have to take my word for it not being particularly good! The screen is on the top of the camera, is very small and, despite being shielded by the folding 'viewer' is hard to see in bright sunlight - in duller conditions it is bright and colourful. Photo format is square, which is faithful to its heritage, 2.25" square (6x6 cm) on 120 film was standard, back in the day. Video is cropped to 16x9 format at 1920x1080 pixels. Video may be taken by a long press on the shutter button, the top screen visibly changing format to indicate video shooting, alternatively, it can be started automatically by cranking the handle of the right hand side of the camera, filming continues while rotating the handle, stopping, with an on-screen countdown, after 6 seconds, I thought this to be a quirky, but fun, addition. Just like the original it copies, shooting is 'best' at lower chest / waist level, making it easier to view the screen. It is quite tiny and lightweight, but easy to hold reasonably steady, even when movie making turning the side handle. While not being of any exceptional quality in photographs, and poor quality in video, I've only taken one star off for my review, as it does, technically, do as intended (it isn't a 'serious' camera) and is quirky enough to be fun to use, and could make a nice talking point too! With the right expectations this is a really fun modern recreation of a vintage twin lens camera. I think it would be a great gift for any person with an appreciation for photography as well. And it’s nicely boxed for gifting. It’s much appreciated that they include the neck strap so you can easily look down through the closable viewfinder which is clear and easy to see. I loved that you turn the crank on the side to start and stop video. I loved looking like a that eclectic camera guy that everyone loves , just living in the moment, lovingly taking vintage photos. The downsides are just the somewhat grainy photos and poor low light performance. But let’s be honest, we’re all spoiled by today’s advanced modern cameras and camera phones. Let’s accept this camera for what it is. A fun inexpensive replica. Really the ding I would give is it would have been more enjoyable to use if the buttons were labeled somehow. I spent a lot of time trying to remember what button did what. I also expected it to be just a little bit bigger. Although I suppose compactness could be appreciated by some. Finally kudos for having a black and white shooting mode. Nicely done. Read more

It is a cute novelty toy camera that is supposed to mimic a TLR medium format cam. Is it good? Well, what do you want exactly. It gives square format 12 megapixel jpeg images from a small sensor. I dont know what aperture the lens is, but its tiny like f22 tiny....which is a problem because you need good light to render an image, if not it looks painterly.....which is trash. Hard light is always overblown. Select your compositions where there is not hard light and do not shoot into the sun. Being a toy cam, I take away 1 point for these set of limitations. Read more
