This enclosure is a brilliant choice for use with an iPhone. It is MagSafe on both sides, making it easy to attach to an iPhone and also to attach another MagSafe accessory to it—a cooling fan or a MagSafe battery pack, for example. It creates the strongest MagSafe magnetic bond I've ever experienced. It will not come off the phone accidentally. Using the Blackmagic Speed Test app on my M1 Max MacBook Pro, I consistently achieved speeds of around 950 MB/s write and 900 MB/sec read using a Crucial P310 2TB M.2 2230 SSD. The Crucial SSD works well with the iPhone, never creating an excessive power draw which would cause the phone to shut it down. (Note that the max speed is limited by the enclosure. The SSD is much faster.) So far, so good. It is a five-star product. HOWEVER...if, like me, you've seen the HAGiBiS accessory cover that allows this enclosure to attach directly to an Osmo Mobile gimbal, don't get too excited. It won't work. There are two issues that prevent this enclosure from working with the Osmo Mobile. The first only applies to certain iPhones. The Osmo Mobile 6 weight limit is 290g. An iPhone 16 Pro with this enclosure attached is right at the limit. The gimbal will work, but it struggles. Any Pro Max iPhone won't. It's too heavy. (It's important to note that I took my measurements with the MC100 Lite. If you choose either of the heavier versions, the MC100 or MC100 Pro, the gimbal will struggle even more.) The second issue is the real deal killer. Inexplicably, the unit doesn't come with the two USB cables pictured for the other versions of the MC100. Instead, Hagibis substitutes a single cable that doesn't conform to the shape of the phone. This cable interferes with the operation of the Osmo Mobile gimbal in both vertical and horizontal orientations. It sticks down too far, and it sticks out too far from the back of the phone. It just won't work. Why, Hagibis? Why? For anyone who is *not* planning to use this drive with a gimbal, it is a five-star product that is easy to recommend. Hopefully, Hagibis addresses the cable situation and makes it possible to use with a gimbal, because this would be a brilliant solution for that use case if not for the cable. Until then, 3 stars.
