I had been using a Shure condenser performance microphone for recording original music vocal compositions, and needed to upgrade to a true condenser recording microphone. Conducted a lot of research and finally decided on the RODE NT1; paid around $150 for the mic, shockmount and pop filter - RODE also included a mic cable in the package, which was a nice surprise. Proof was in the actual use in recording my vocal material in a home recording studio. Paired with a Scarlett Solo 3rd gen USB audio interface connected to my Mac laptop, using Garage Band to record vocal tracks. Easy to use, great sound quality of mic, and simple to share music files with my instrumental collaborator in another state. BIG improvement over my old setup - discovered just how much I'd been missing in making my previous recordings. In this price range there are 3 mics I recommend and this is the only one that requires phantom power. Exceptional sound quality, for the price obviously like I just said ...almost nothing competes that doesn't say shure or 2035 on it and even then, I'd pick this over the 2035, sound beats it by a hair. Great value in the kit, you get. Shock mount and pop filter and this mic doesn't really NEED a filter the way a beta57a or a Blue ember does. Get this mic, a beta 57a, or a normal 56 with a foam filter, and a SE v7 and you're covering a LOT of bases. For under the price of one new SM7b....you get basically to my ears, same quality if you know how to reduce treat a room....just some advice, not everyone NEEDS a $600 SM7b.
