First time purchase of a welding helmet. I am an online and self taught hobbyist. I wanted an auto darkening, adjustable, reasonably priced unit. This helmet delivers that. Comfortable, not heavy, optics performed flawlessly with a great viewing area that I experienced. The tightening knobs on the sides of the helmet (to keep it flipped up) aren't the strongest in build, but do the job if you crank them down to the point you fear breaking them. Is it "pro" grade? I'd guess that the plastic shroud, headband and tightening knobs are not quite that robust, but the optics seem very much so. Great range of adjustment (I used a 100 watt clear glass incandescent bulb to simulate an arc light for initial testing) with adequate delay and darkness ranges. I've worn "pro" hard hats for quite some time so it's a fair comparison as far as suspension and adjustments. For the price? Fantastic value and I've got around 5 hours of welding (actual arc in use) and have had zero issues with it. Read more

Just starting out using a Lincoln "tombstone" AC/DC welder to expand my weekend hobbies. I had this one reccomended to me as a good helmet that's not too expensive. It has a great response time, lot's of adjustment, and so far I'm very happy. I had some molten metal splash down on it while i was under a car and it rolled right off w/o burning through. After that i picked up some face and arm protection, but I'm happy! There is a large coin battery that operates it hood, and so far it looks to be identical to the one in my winch remote, and available at the local tractor supply store! I also looked at the harborfreight model, this one has a much larger viewing area, but that's also part of the reason why i bought this one vs some other options that could be had in a short time-frame. Really the only thing i don't like about it is the somewhat cheap looking finish on the helmet, it looks like cheap china plastic. However it did deflect molten metal w/o leaving a mark. I'll also note that one of my led garage lights will trigger the sensor and darken the hood. It makes me wonder how the sensor works, and how eye safe that light is. I now just use that light to be sure the helmet is working before i attempt to weld something. It also tells me that i should use the helmet bag that it comes with to prevent wearing down the battery. Read more

Things I like: 1) Large viewing window makes it very easy to see the work piece. 2) True color feature. 3) Head gear has many adjustments to make it fit perfectly. Don’t have to readjust each time. 4) The shade darkness can be adjusted to your needs. 5) The helmet is very light, so doesn’t creep down from the raised position. 6) Turns on and off automatically. Don’t have an on/off button to press each time you use it. 7) Comes with a bag to store it in. Keeps dust off the lenses. 8) Comes with spare protective lenses and spare battery. Concerns: 1) Tricky to remove the filter lens when replacing or cleaning the front protective lens. Read more
