Whenever I need an external drive, I always buy Western Digital as I've found they're always the most reliable. This 18TB drive is no exception and the price was a real bargain for the size of the drive. The drive is a little noisier than my smaller 8TB and 4TB external drives, but that's not big deal since it's only used for backups. The drive did come with a UK plug since it was sent from Amazon UK, but I simply emailed WD and asked if they could send me out an AU adapter, which they kindly did without hesitation. Read more

Très content de cet achat, j'avais besoin d'une sauvegarde en plus, ce disque externe (HDD) fonctionne bien et est plutôt rapide pour un disque à plateaux. Je suis photographe, j'ai fait un test de transfert de 2500 photos, en tout 110go, l'écriture s'est fait entre 160mo/s et 190mo/s. Je suis satisfait, rien à voir avec un SSD, mais les prix ne sont pas du tout les mêmes. Je recommande, et je pense même en acheter un deuxième, on a jamais assez de sauvegarde, c'est malheureusement du vécu. J'avais déjà un disque externe My Book d'une génération précédente de 4to ( à gauche sur la photo, le nouveau étant donc à droite) , qui a pas loin de 10 ans, il fonctionne toujours, mais est moins rapide que le dernier acheté, c'est donc une très bonne surprise ! Compré el WD My Book de 8TB para hacer copias de seguridad de mi PC y almacenar mi creciente colección de películas y archivos. Hasta ahora, ha sido una excelente inversión. La capacidad es enorme, me sobra espacio para todo, y la velocidad de transferencia con USB 3.0 es muy rápida. Puedo mover archivos grandes en cuestión de minutos. La instalación fue sencilla, solo conectarlo y listo, sin complicaciones. Además, viene con un software de copia de seguridad muy fácil de usar, aunque yo prefiero hacer backups manuales. Lo he dejado encendido durante horas y no se calienta demasiado, lo cual es un alivio. El diseño es sobrio y compacto, queda bien en el escritorio sin ocupar mucho espacio. Me gusta que tiene protección por contraseña, lo cual da un extra de seguridad. En general, estoy muy contento con la compra. Ich mag die WD MyBook, weil sie ausreichend schnell und angenehm leise ist. Außerdem kann man Zeiten für den Ruhemodus einstellen und die Daten durch Vergabe eines Zugriffs-Passworts vor unberechtigten Zugriffen schützen. Es handelt sich dabei um Hardwareverschlüsselung. Die Daten werde also permanent beim Schreiben on-the-fly verschlüsselt und beim Lesen entschlüsselt. Weil das ein Hardwarechip macht, ist die Verschlüsselung viel schneller als eine Software-Verschlüsselung und trotzdem ausreichend sicher. Software-Verschlüsselung kann defacto sicherer sein, wenn die Software was taugt und entsprechend konfiguriert ist. Da die Verschlüsselung permanent stattfindet, ist die Festplatte sofort nach Vergabe eines Zugriffspassworts geschützt. Die Daten müssen also nicht erst neu verschlüsselt werden. Ohne Passwort ist der Zugang zum eigentlichen Verschlüsselungsschlüssel offen und die Festplatte kann vom jedem gelesen werden. Nach Vergabe eines Passworts ist der Verschlüsselungsschlüssel "eingesperrt" und kann die Daten erst nach Eingabe des Zugriffspassworts wieder entchlüsseln. Für mich ist das ideal, weil ich nicht will, dass unbefugte Fremde meinen Daten lesen. Aber einen Hochsicherheitstresor als Schutz vor Strafverfolgungsbehörden benötige ich nicht. Ich vergebe das Zugriffs-Passwort bei fast allen meinen Daten. Schon weil ich bei einer defekten Festplatte, die ich entsorge oder als Garantiefall einschicke, die Daten i.d.R. gar nicht mehr selbst löschen kann. Dann ist es gut, wenn sie verschlüsselt und mit Zugriffs-Passwort gesichert auf der Festpaltte liegen. Eine schlechte Seite hat die WD MyBook aber. Der Kundenservice von Western Digital hat sich in den letzten zwei Jahren als richtig schlecht gezeigt. Ewige Wartezeiten auf das Austauschprodukt (4 Monate) ohne Garantieverlängerung. Dreimal habe ich neuere Modelle mit USB-C-Anschluss für MyPassport-Modelle als Austauschprodukte erhalten, aber zweimal ohne das passende USB-C Kabel. Ein Austauschmodell kam defekt bei mir an. Das macht das Produkt selbst aber nicht schlechter. Da es aber nur noch drei Anbieter von Festplatten (HDDs) gibt, kann man auch nicht ganz einfach ausweichen. Hinweis: Ich empfehle bei jeder großen Festplatte 3 bis 5 erweiterte (lange) SMART-Selbsttests durchzuführen, bevor man Daten darauf speichert. Die meisten Defekte ereignen sich am Anfang und am Ende der Lebensdauer einer Festplatte (Badewannen-Effekt). Durch die intensive Nutzung durch mehrere komplette Speichertests (Stresstest) kann man das Ausfallrisiko am Anfang reduzieren, wenn auch nicht vermeiden. Besser die Festplatte fällt gleich nach dem Kauf aus, als wenn man schon eine Menge Daten darauf gespeichert hat.
