Let's face it - the design of this heater is uber sexy and you're paying for it - but you are also paying for a quality product that does just what it says it will do. The major advantage is a design which provides excellent heat without the fear of setting everything around your space heater on fire. It is also a unit that can be touched accidentally and will not see you (or your children or pets) walking away with scorched fingers, paws or fur. The remote is intuitive and easy to use and the ability to control the dynamics of the airflow (focused narrow output or wide spread of air) is clever and very practical. I live in an older brick building with an open floor plan, old windows and less than optimal insulation. My home is heated by water source heat pumps (essentially a fancy name for an in-ceiling air conditioner that uses the compression of refrigerant to provide heat as well as cooling). These units are efficient and heat steadily, but not near at the rate of other heating devices such as a gas forced hot air furnace or baseboard radiant heating. I use the Dyson to fill in the gaps as my heat pumps bring the air mass of the house up to temp. Because the unit can tilt its head up or down (this is a position set manually), you can wash air across a cold floor or push air upward if need be. For maximum effect, set the fan to oscillate with a wide spread of the air stream...you will feel the ambient temperature of your room increase rapidly. The unit can be set for a certain room temperature (obviously this works best in an enclosed room vs. an open space) and will cycle on and off as the temperature is achieved. The fan is relatively quiet, even at high speed. I've read complaints about fan noise but I suspect this is coming from some very PICKY people...this is among the quietest fans or space heaters I've ever come across. This is my first Dyson purchase. Im so happy with it! The heating feature on this fan is awesome. it warms a room in minutes. It stays on until the room is warmed to the desired temp and then shuts off. it will turn back on when it starts to cool. The cool aspect of this fan goes up to 10 speed settings. and has all the usual options for a fan - timer, oscillation, and tilt. It also has an option to direct the air through the room or straight shot on to you. And it comes with a handy remote! I will never buy another brand of fan ever! I purchased this heater for a large sun-room that is quite cold in the winter months. It is a large space to heat but this does the job well. It's quiet and stylish. So quiet that I have sometimes forgotten to switch it off, although that can be solved with the timer feature. It provides a heat that does not dry out the atmosphere. The heater is well constructed and easy to move to a different location. It's not as cheap as some similar products but you get what you pay for. Read more

So I was hesitant to purchase this heater/fan initially because of the high price tag but I will say that now that we have it in the house we are absolutely loving it. It is ideally suited for small spaces so we use it to keep our daughters’ bedroom warm during colder months. It does this job exceptionally well- the room stays perfectly comfortable without fear of overheating the girls due to the built in thermostat and the ability to adjust the fan power at a comfortably low setting. This is true for the cooling fan as well. Other fans we’ve used are loud and overpowering and need to be placed in front of a well ventilated area to push cold air out. The intensity of the fans make it too cold to keep on all night. Not so with this fan - again somehow this fan manages to have just the perfect settings so you can adjust it to be cool enough but not overpowering. And we can stick it in front of a wall and it still manages to push cold air out. It is also very safe because unlike other space heaters it does not get hot so you don’t have to worry about little ones burning themselves if they touch it. The things to consider about this unit are the following : it is not well suited for larger spaces like a large open living room- while it will heat the space it will not do it sufficiently enough to feel toasty warm like a larger unit would. It also can not be used as an air conditioning unit for larger spaces - the fan is very effective and does a good job of cooling you in a small space but it does not have a high intensity cooling system like AC units do. Essentially if you have a small space that you need to heat and cool comfortably then this will work well for you. I would say it is best used to heat or cool a child’s room because it is safe, quiet and not overly intense so you never have to worry that your child is too hot or too cold at night while they sleep. That being said as much as we love the unit (and it is really an exceptionally well made and high quality product) we did get it on sale and I’m not sure that we would have bought it at full price, as it is quite expensive for just being a simple fan and heater.
