works well for me. I'm male and have been suffering with IBS (extreme G.I. cramping with diarrhea) for years and this has been a game changer for me. Unfortunately the price sky rocketed up to about 4x what it was just a couple of months ago. I've switched to another brand that works well. Unfortunately the other brand has a nasty odor both coming and going. I'll switch back if the price comes back down. I take this along with NOW pancreatin and Betaine with great success. My symptoms have improved greatly. I'd approximate that I've experienced an 85% improvement in my symptoms. I still have occasional trouble but I've stopped taking two prescription products (generic Questran and dicyclomine) and OTC loperamide almost entirely. I feel much much better with this combination. I'm a clinical pharmacist by profession and have tried a number of prescription and over the counter products for years. I've been taking this combination of enzymes with meals along with psyllium fiber (one tablespoonful twice daily) for about two months now. My activities of daily living are now normal. Since stopping all GERD meds because they strip your body of much needed Magnesium, I initially went with NOW Foods Chewable Papaya Tablets and they work quite well. But, when I was reading the reviews on NOW Foods Digest Ultimate, it insinuated it would work better. I started by taking it as prescribed: 1 capsule with each meal. It did not say anything about taking it 30 minutes (or longer) before the meal. That didn't work. I then tried 1 capsule 30 minutes prior to eating; better, but not as good as the Papaya. In order to "sometimes equal the benefits of their Papaya Tablets", I had to take 2 capsules 30 minutes prior to eating. Every so often I have experienced gas and bloating. Raw, organic/steamed vegetables are always on my menu. I was told that the raw ones can cause gas. The most recent episisode had showed me that although probiotics have been very helpful something more was necessary. Now Foods Digestive Platinum was recommended for digestion by a naturopath dr. This formula contains high levels of digestive enzymes that the body needs. So far so good! I added this to the probiotics, and homeopathic remedies as part of my daily regimen. I had a problem with diarrhea and my Dr of Oriental Medicine suggested taking a Probiotic having 50 Billion Live Cultures. It helped a little but not enough. Them my Doctor suggested I take Digestive Enzymes as well. I tried several different brands and some were effective to varying degrees. But these worked the best for me and ended my diarrhea problem. I have since read that our immune system health starts in our gut and our ability to fully digest the goods we eat deteriorates with age. I now include these with my meals and other supplements to aid digestion and maximize the absorption of those nutrients. After all, it's foolish to spend money on expensive supplements when the body isn't fully digesting them. This is a great multi-purpose product. I think it covers the bases pretty well. Might be especially good for those who are not quite sure what they have trouble digesting, or if they have multiple issues. Who wants to experiment or have to take more than one pill all the time? I take one pill whenever I eat a heavy meal or when I am eating something that I am pretty sure will give me some trouble. The product seems to work pretty well - won't go into details, but you know what I mean. :) I'm a little reluctant to take more than one a day for fear that my body will stop producing one or more enzymes, and then I'd become dependent. Not sure if this is a real possibility, but I'm not taking any chances. Price wise, now about $25 for 120 caps on amazon, the product is not very expensive considering how well they work. I've tried other multi-enzyme products, and they are more expensive and do not have the variety of enzymes as the product here. The same enzyme in Beano is in here and at a good level - missing in other multi-products I've seen - and this is a common need for those with digestive problems. I'd recommend them, at least in moderation, for those who have digestive issues. But, maybe ask your doctor first, especially if you are taking a lot of medication or have serious health problems.
